Our Thematic Areas

The key sectors in ADRA Eswatini’s integrated approach include health (mainly HIV and AIDS), food and nutrition security, economic empowerment, basic education and emergency management. Programs are based on needs assessments that include consultation with communities, key government departments, and other stakeholders. Target regions: Lubombo and Shiselweni

The same sector gave conditional food assistance to households with able bodied members who participated in various livelihood and environmental management activities and rehabilitation of key community infrastructure.

The sector operated in 7 districts Goromonzi, Umguza, Bubi, Gokwe North, Zvishavane, Binga and Mbire. The sector worked with 400000 farmers in Goromonzi, Umguza and Mbire for market linkages, climate smart agriculture and produce processing, storage and nutrition. In Gokwe North 3000 farmers were supported with small grain inputs whilst 8000 farmers are benefitting small livestock (goats and chickens) including feed formulation inputs and vaccines. Across all the districts, the sector supports provision of extension services for farmers. In Zvishavane and Gokwe North 26 schools have been supported with income generating projects including sewing machines, grain shellers, school gardening, egg incubators, oil extraction machines, chickens and goats. Across all the districts village savings and loans schemes are supported.

The relief and recovery efforts were aimed at reducing the effects of drought experienced in the 2018/19/20 season which left an estimated 5.5 million people in need for food assistance. The efforts of the government of Zimbabwe, several partners including the UNWFP in drought reliefinitiated food assistance services in the most hard-hit areas. ADRA managed to secure funding for the assistance for Gweru, Zvishavane, Mbire, Seke and Binga districts. ADRA with its partners provided cushioning rations for the most vulnerable community members in the most food insecure districts.
